TMJ Replacement
TMJ replacement is a surgical procedure performed to replace a damaged or severely diseased temporomandibular joint (TMJ) with an artificial joint. The TMJ connects the lower jaw to the skull and is essential for movements such as chewing, speaking, and opening the mouth. When this joint is affected by severe damage, pain, or dysfunction, TMJ replacement may be recommended to restore normal function and relieve discomfort.
TMJ replacement is usually considered in cases where other treatments such as medications, physiotherapy, or minor procedures have not provided relief.
